The term "deacon" is derived from the Greek word diakonos, which is usually translated "servant."
The noun form comes from a verb which means "to serve," probably originally in the sense of waiting on tables. It came to be used to signify
a broad range of types of service.
What is Deacon Ministry?
The Bible outlines the need for Deacons as:
Serving the needs and concerns of those in the
congregation
Allowing more time for the Disciples (pastoral leadership) to continue with the ministry of the Word and prayer.
-Acts 6:1-6
At Providence, the Deacon servants participate in the weekly GROW (Go Reach Our World) visitation, held
every Monday evening, starting at 6:30 p.m. All church members are invited to be a part of GROW visitation
